On 11 April 2022, the “Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology” (INSAIT) was opened in Bulgaria. This first-class research institution for computer science and artificial intelligence is the result of close cooperation between Switzerland and Bulgaria, including Sofia University and the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Lausanne and Zurich (EPFL and ETH). The two Swiss universities will support INSAIT in its research and share their scientific expertise.

The initiative to establish INSAIT came about as part of Switzerland’s enlargement contribution to selected EU member states, including Bulgaria. The cooperation will continue and further projects are planned.

For Bulgaria, but also for the whole CEE region, it is a great event that may make an enormous contribution to research, education and innovation, as it is the first institute for artificial intelligence in the whole region.
