As an interdisciplinary research institute of the ETH Domain, Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, conducts cutting-edge materials and technology research in the areas of nanostructured, “smart” materials and surfaces, energy, sustainable building and environmental technologies as well as medical technology and solutions for personalized medicine. About Tanja Zimmermann
Tanja Zimmermann is since 2022 Director of Empa and Professor for Materials Science at ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne. She received her PhD from the University of Hamburg in 2007. Her research foci are on cellulose- and wood-based materials. Important for her are topics such as circular economy or resource efficiency and strategies to achieve NetZero goals. Tanja Zimmermann is a member of various national and international committees, scientific advisory boards and research commissions.
