The Czech Republic is one of the most developed industrialised nations in Central Eastern Europe and is an important trading partner for Switzerland in the region. The manufacturing industry accounts for 27% of the country’s GDP, particularly in the automotive sector, making the country a European leader. It primarily exports machinery and transport equipment.
Switzerland’s exports have risen sharply in the last 10 years (2011-2021) and amounted to a considerable CHF 2 billion in 2021. The most important export goods are chemical and pharmaceutical products, machinery, metals and precision instruments as well as watches.
The Czech Republic is a popular location for Swiss investors. According to figures from the Swiss National Bank, Swiss FDI in the Czech Republic totalled CHF 3.3 billion, which corresponds to 27,456 jobs by the end of 2019.
